Getting started
Welcome to RollQuest. RollQuest is a virtual tabletop (VTT) - an online space where you and your friends play tabletop roleplaying games together, no matter where everyone is. A Game Master runs the story on a shared map; players move their characters, roll dice, and track their sheets, all in the same browser window in real time.
This guide gives you the lay of the land and points you to the right next step. It takes about three minutes to read.
What you need before you start
You don't need to install anything. RollQuest runs in your web browser.
Supported browsers: RollQuest works on Chrome and Edge. If you open it in Safari or Firefox, you'll see a message asking you to switch — the app won't let you sign in on those. Install Chrome or Edge first if you don't have either.
You'll also want an email address you can check (you'll confirm your account by email), and — if a friend invited you — the invite email or link they sent.
The two roles
Almost everything in RollQuest comes down to one question: are you running the game or playing in it?
A Game Master (GM), called the Creator of a campaign in the app, sets up the world, builds or imports maps, invites players, and controls what happens at the table. If you're the one organizing the game, that's you — start with Create a Campaign.
A Player joins a campaign someone else created, controls their own character, and rolls their own dice. If a friend invited you, that's you — start with Join a Campaign.
You can be both — a Creator in one campaign and a Player in another. Your account is the same either way.
Your first five minutes
Here's the whole on-boarding path, in order. Each step links to its own guide.
- Create your account. Sign up with email and a password, or with Google or Discord. → Create Your Account
- Set up your profile. Add a display name, avatar, and a short bio so other players recognize you. → Set Up Your Profile
- Then either:
- Running a game? → Create a Campaign, then Invite and Add Players.
- Joining a game? → Join a Campaign.
What the dashboard is
After you sign in, you land on your dashboard — the home base headed "Welcome to RollQuest." From here you can see every campaign you're part of under Your Games, start a new one with the New Game button, open your profile from the badge in the top-right corner, and check your plan and usage.
Each campaign shows up as a card with its name, description, the players in it, and a button that says Continue Game (if you're the Creator) or Join Game (if you're a player).
