Most sound problems come down to the browser waiting for a click, your own volume, or the Game Master (GM) muting the table. Work down this list.

For: Game Masters and players · Plan: Free · 1 minute

1. Click anywhere on the page

Browsers don't play sound until you've clicked, tapped or pressed a key on the page. Until then, music the GM starts waits and begins on your first click. Sound effects played before it are missed.

2. Check your own volume

Your volume lives in three places, and they're the same settings:

  • your profile, under Volume,
  • Game Settings > Audio, for the GM,
  • Audio Settings (the cog on the tool rail), for players.

There are four sliders: Master volume, Background music, Sound effects and Dice. Each has a test button, such as Test music, so you can check it straight away. They're saved on the device you're using, so a new computer or browser starts at the defaults.

3. See if the GM has muted the table

If the volume section says Muted by the GM, the GM has turned all sound off for everyone, and the test buttons are greyed out. Only the GM can turn it back on.

4. Joined late?

If you joined or reloaded after the GM started a track by hand, you won't hear it: you hear the scene's background music instead. Ask the GM to play it again.

5. Check your computer

RollQuest plays through your computer's default sound output. Check the right speakers or headphones are selected, and that the browser tab isn't muted.
