When your players can see the whole map, or can't see a thing, one of these is usually the reason.

Check what they actually see

  • Open the menu and turn GM View off. You now see the board the way players do. Turn it back on to keep working.
  • On Starter and Pro, you can see exactly what one player sees: choose Fog of War in the Mode menu and pick them under GM View Perspective (or Party View for the whole party).

They see too much

  • Fog is off. Choose Fog of War in the Mode menu and switch it on.
  • A gap in a wall. Sight passes through any gap, however small. Join wall ends by clicking an existing corner. See Walls.
  • An open door. Close it in Play mode.
  • Persistent fog. With Persistent (stays visible), places stay revealed once seen. Use Reset in the fog tools to cover them again.
  • Bright Light. In bright light, characters see as far as the walls let them. Use Dim Light or Darkness to limit how far. See Lighting.

They see too little

  • Static fog. With Static (GM-controlled), nothing is visible until you reveal it with the fog tools.
  • Darkness with no lights. Add a light or give someone a torch.
  • No character assigned. A player only sees from their own tokens. With none assigned, their board is black.
  • Lighting needs fog. If the Environment settings say lighting needs fog of war, or needs dynamic fog, change the fog style in Game settings.

"Why can my friend see it and I can't?"

Each player sees only from their own tokens. Sight isn't shared across the party, so a player in the next room sees things the others don't. On Starter and Pro, Player Perspective View lets you share a token's view with chosen players.
