Tie sounds to what happens on the board and RollQuest plays them for you: a door creaks open, thunder rolls at nightfall, rain patters through a storm.

For: Game Masters · Plan: Starter · 2 minutes · What it's for: Audio

Playing every sound by hand means watching for the right moment while you're also running the game. Tie a sound to something on the board, the map in the middle of the screen, and RollQuest plays it for everyone the moment that thing happens: the door opens, the phase changes, the weather sets in. Set them up while you prepare a scene, and they look after themselves during play.

Plan: these sounds come from your Sound Library, which is on Starter and Pro. Weather is on Pro.

All three use sounds you've uploaded to the game's Sound Library. See Sound effects.

Doors

A door is a section of wall that you or your players can open and close during play.

  1. Right-click a door and choose Edit Door Sounds.
  2. Pick an Opening Sound and a Closing Sound, or No Sound. Type in Search sounds… to find one.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Whenever anyone opens or closes the door, everyone hears it at the same moment. The same window lets you rename the door and make it a Secret Door. See Doors.

Phases

A phase is another version of a scene's map, such as day and night, or a hall before and after the roof caves in. Swapping phases changes the map for everyone, and a sound helps the change land.

  1. Open Scenes (in the menu, three lines at the top left) and click Manage… in the Phases strip.
  2. Next to a phase, pick a sound from the list (or No sound).

When you swap to that phase, everyone in the game hears the sound with the transition. Players who join after the swap don't hear it. See Phases.

Weather

Weather is rain, snow, fog and the like drawn over the map for everyone in the game, and it can carry up to two sound tracks of its own.

  1. Hover over the Mode menu, the tab at the top of the board, and choose Environment.
  2. Under Weather, choose Sound - Track 1 and, if you like, Sound - Track 2: rain and distant thunder, say.
  3. Use each track's mix button to set its Volume and how long it takes to Fade in/out.

Weather sounds loop for as long as the weather lasts. Players who join later hear them too. See Weather.
