Calendar builder
Give your world its own calendar, with named months, festival days between them, leap years and an era, for the world clock and the journal to use.
Fantasy worlds rarely use our months: your party might set out on the 3rd of Frostwane in the year 1000. The calendar builder sets the calendar your game world runs on, so the world clock and the in-world dates in your campaign journal (dates inside the story, as opposed to the real dates of your sessions) read the way your world does. Set it up before your first session if your setting has a calendar of its own, or pick a ready-made one and leave it.
Plan: the calendar builder is on Pro.
Beta: the calendar builder is still rolling out, so it may not be on your account yet.
Open the calendar
Open Game Settings (the cog on the tool rail) > Rules and find Calendar. Pick a starting point under In-world calendar: System default, Real-world (Gregorian) or Generic Fantasy. Once you change anything, it becomes Current calendar.
System default follows your game system, the set of rules the game uses: for 5e, that's Generic Fantasy, twelve months of 30 days with five festival days between them. Real-world (Gregorian) is our own calendar.
Build it
- Era label (after) and Era label (before): what years are counted in, such as AR and BR, the way our calendar counts CE and BCE.
- Start year: the year your campaign opens in.
- Leap years: add a leap day every so many years.
- Months & festivals: + Add month and + Add festival. Give each month a name and a number of days, name each festival, and move them into order. A festival is a single day between two months that belongs to neither, such as a midwinter feast. A festival can be a leap-year day.
- Sunrise & sunset: when dawn and dusk come. The world clock counts down to them, the chat says when the sun rises or sets, and the clock's Next dawn and Next dusk jump to them. Leave them alone for 06:00 and 18:00. Turn on Varies by season to set them month by month.
Click Save Settings.
Changing a calendar you've used
If journal entries already have in-world dates, RollQuest warns you before you change the months. Tick Clear the in-world date on those entries when I save to clear them, or leave it and the dates stay as they were.
