When your Game Master (GM) plans a session, answer Going, Maybe or Can't make it from the game's Schedule or with one tap in the email, and add it to your calendar.

For: Players · Plan: Free · 11 minutes

The GM is the person who runs your game. When they plan the next session in RollQuest, it shows up on your dashboard and in the game, in your own time zone, so you never have to work out what 8 PM for them means for you. Your answer tells them who is coming, and email reminders mean nobody forgets. All of this is free: you don't need a paid plan.

Beta: session scheduling is still rolling out, so it may not be on your account yet.

It depends on your GM's account, not yours. If your GM has it, you have it in their game.

The first time you open the game

The first time you go into a game that has a schedule, a Welcome to window opens with the game's name. It asks two quick things and shows once for each game.

  1. Under Your time zone, check the zone. RollQuest has picked it from your browser. Change opens Time zone and availability if it's wrong.
  2. Under When can you usually play?, click every time that suits you.
  3. Click Save and see the schedule. The Schedule drawer opens, so you can answer straight away.

Skip for now closes the window and saves nothing, and so does its cross. It won't come back for this game. You can set everything later: see Set your time zone and weekly hours.

Part What it shows or does
Your time zone The zone's name and its offset from UTC (the world's reference time), such as America/New_York, UTC-4 now, UTC-5 from 1 Nov. Then Detected from this browser. or Saved in your settings.
Weekday mornings Monday to Friday, 9 AM to noon.
Weekday evenings Monday to Friday, 6 PM to 10 PM.
Weekend afternoons Saturday and Sunday, noon to 6 PM.
Weekend evenings Saturday and Sunday, 6 PM to 11 PM.
Late nights Every day, 10 PM to midnight.
Your first session Shows when a session is planned: its time in your zone. If that's outside the times you picked, it says so, and suggests you answer Can't make it or tell your GM what suits you.

The times you pick are added to any weekly hours you've already saved. Only the GMs of your games can see them.

See your next session

On your dashboard, on a computer, each game with a schedule has a next-session box on its card. On a phone the box is hidden, but the card's calendar button is there.

On the card Meaning
Next session · in 3 days, · tomorrow, · today or Playing now How far off it is, in your time zone.
The date, time and session name The next session.
You are going, You might come or You can't make it Your answer.
2 going, 1 maybe, 1 can't, 1 no reply The answers so far, until you've given yours. The GM counts as going.
Your answer is needed, or 2 sessions need your answer Sessions still waiting for you.
Not planned yet Your GM hasn't planned one.
A number on the calendar button How many sessions are waiting for your answer.

In the game, click Schedule, the calendar on the tool rail (the column of icons down the right-hand edge). On a phone it's in the menu (three lines, top left), under Your tools. A dot on the icon means a session is waiting for your answer.

You can also click the calendar button on the game's card to open the schedule without going into the game.

The Schedule drawer slides in from the right. Click the cross (Close schedule) or press Esc to close it. It shows:

  • Times in your zone, with your time zone. Change opens Time zone and availability.
  • The next session: when it is, its length, and any note from your GM. Extra, optional means it's an optional extra session. New time means your GM has moved it.
  • Your answer buttons and Add to calendar.
  • Who is coming: everyone in the game, their local time, and their answer.
  • Coming up, once there are two or more sessions. Click a row to see that session. Answer needed marks the ones you haven't answered.
  • My time zone and weekly hours, which opens Time zone and availability.

If nothing is planned, it says Your GM has not planned the next session yet.

Answer a session

  1. Open Schedule.
  2. If it's a later session you want, click it under Coming up.
  3. Click Going, Maybe or Can't make it.

Your answer saves straight away, and your GM and everyone else in the game see it. You can change it as often as you like until the session ends.

Each session has its own answer, so answering one doesn't answer the next.

Answer from an email

Session emails have three buttons: I'm going, Maybe and I can't make it. Tap one. A page opens and records your answer, with no sign-in needed, and says You're going, You might come or You can't make it. If the page shows a button such as Confirm: I'm going, click it. To change your mind, tap another button in the same email, or answer in RollQuest.

The links in an email work for you alone, so don't forward it: anyone who has the email can answer as you.

Add a session to your calendar

In the drawer, under Add to calendar:

Button What it does
Google Opens Google Calendar's new-event page in a new tab, filled in. Click save there.
Outlook Opens Outlook on the web's new-event page in a new tab, filled in, for a personal Outlook.com or Hotmail calendar.
Apple / .ics Downloads a calendar file, for Apple Calendar and any other calendar app.

Session emails have the same choices under Add to your calendar: Google, Outlook, Apple and Download .ics.

RollQuest asks for no permissions and doesn't connect to your calendar. The time shows in your calendar's own zone.

A calendar event is a copy. If your GM moves or cancels the session, the event stays as it was, so add the new time and delete the old one. A new .ics file from the same session carries the same identity, so a calendar app that supports it updates the event instead of adding a second one.

If a session moves or is cancelled

  • Moved: the session shows New time, and your answer is cleared, so answer again. If your GM ticked the email box, you get an email with the new time and Was and the old one.
  • Cancelled: it leaves your schedule. If your GM ticked the email box, you get a cancelled email within a minute.
  • Edited: a new name, length or note appears straight away, with no email, and your answer stays.

Set your time zone and weekly hours

Your time zone and hours are yours, not a game's: set them once and every game uses them.

  1. Open Schedule and click My time zone and weekly hours, or click Edit time zone and availability in your profile.
  2. Under Time zone, keep Use my browser's time zone, or pick Choose one myself and choose from the list.
  3. Under Weekly availability, click or drag across the hours you can usually play.
  4. Add any holidays under Away, holidays and busy dates.
  5. Click Save.

Your hours help your GM choose a time. They don't answer for you. Every option is explained in Time zone and availability.

Choose which emails you get

Email When it comes
New session About 5 minutes after your GM plans it, if they ticked the email box.
New time About 5 minutes after your GM moves it, if they ticked the box.
Cancelled Within a minute of your GM cancelling it, if they ticked the box.
24 hours to go A day before. It's skipped if the session was planned or moved less than about a day ahead.
Starting soon An hour before.

You don't get reminders for a session you've answered Can't make it. A repeating session sends one New session email, about the first date, then reminders for each. Your GM can turn reminders off for a session or a whole game. If a GM changes a session many times in one day, RollQuest stops emailing about it for a while, so check Schedule if something looks out of date.

To get fewer:

To stop Do this
Emails about Extra sessions Switch off Email me about optional extra sessions in Time zone and availability. You still see Extra sessions in the drawer. Answer Going or Maybe and you get that session's emails.
All emails from one game Click Mute this game at the bottom of any session email, then Mute this game on the page that opens. Your other games aren't affected.
All session emails, from every game Switch off Send me session reminders and changes in Time zone and availability, or click Stop session emails at the bottom of any session email, then Stop session emails on the page that opens.

Stop session emails can be undone: switch Send me session reminders and changes back on. RollQuest has no way to undo Mute this game yet, so use it only for a game you're sure about.

You still see every session in RollQuest, whichever you choose.

What you can and can't do

As a player, you can Only your GM can
See every upcoming session in your time zone Plan a session
Answer each one, and change your answer Move or edit a session, or change its note
Add a session to your calendar Cancel a session
Set your own time zone, hours, away dates and emails Turn reminders on or off for the game or for one session
Mute a game's emails for yourself Decide whether an email goes out about a change

None of what you can do needs a paid plan, and your GM's plan doesn't limit it either.

Your time zone and local time Everyone in the game.
