With fog of war on, you see what your character can see, and nothing more. Here's why the board looks the way it does.

You see from your own character

The fog clears around your own token, as far as your character can see. Walls and closed doors block your sight, and a secret door looks like any other wall.

Each player's view is their own. The fog doesn't clear because a teammate is standing somewhere, so a friend in the next room can see things you can't, and the other way round.

Your Game Master (GM) can let you see from another token too, such as a familiar or a scout. That uses Player Perspective View, on Starter and Pro.

How the fog behaves

Your GM picks one of three styles for the game:

  • Dynamic: fog closes in again when you leave a place.
  • Persistent: once you've seen a place, it stays revealed for you.
  • Static: the map stays dark until the GM reveals parts of it by hand.

Light and darkness

In Dim Light or Darkness, you only see as far as your character's vision and any lights reach. Senses such as darkvision work when the GM uses Dynamic fog.

If it looks wrong

Tell your GM. The usual reasons are a missing wall, a door left open, or the fog style. There's a checklist for GMs in Players see too much or too little.
