Mark where a fireball lands or a cone of cold spreads. An area effect stays on the board, shows its size in feet, and picks out the creatures inside it.

For: Game Masters and players · Plan: Free · 1 minute

Place a template

  1. Hover over the Mode menu and choose Area Effects. Anyone can, players included.

  2. Pick Circle, Square, Cone or Rectangle.

  3. Drag on the board. The label shows the size as you go, such as 20 ft radius or 30 ft cone.

Area Effects in the Mode menu: drag out a circle, then a cone. Each shows its size in feet.

Hold Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) to drag from the centre, and Shift to turn it.

The creatures inside are selected, ready to target with a spell. See Spells and casting.

Change it

Click a template to open Area of Effect:

  • Name and Color,
  • Transparency,
  • Snap to grid,
  • Fill: fill it with a picture from your assets, like flames or ice.

Remove it

Right-click it and choose Delete AoE, click Delete in its editor, or select it in Area Effects mode and press Delete.

Only the person who placed a template, or the Game Master (GM), can change or remove it. Anyone else sees a note that it isn't theirs.

Templates from spells

When you cast a spell from a sheet and use Place area, RollQuest draws the template for you, and removes it when the spell has been resolved.
