Dice designs
A dice design is a complete look for your 3D dice, such as the Goblin Box, whose d6 is a little goblin with long ears and a hooked nose. Choose one in a game and everyone at the table sees it on your rolls.
Your dice normally roll in your own colours (see Dice settings). A design replaces those colours with its own look: gold-trimmed jewels, felt, poured marble, a circuit board. Some designs go further and swap one die for a sculpted 3D model, such as the Goblin Box d6, the Mimic Chest d6 or the Potion of Healing d4. Designs cost nothing: two are yours for the asking, and the rest unlock when you earn a sticker.
Plan: dice designs are on every plan, and every design is free. Most unlock with an achievement sticker: see the table under Get a design.
Get a design
Designs live in the Marketplace, on the Dice tab.
Open the Marketplace: click Marketplace on your dashboard, or, in a game you run, open the menu (three lines, top left) and click Marketplace. In a game, Find more dice designs in your dice settings (below) opens it straight on the Dice tab. See The marketplace.
Click the Dice tab.
Click a design to open its page. It shows the design's picture, what it's made of, and, for a design with a 3D model die, How it rolls (see Classic and physics dice).
Marketplace, the Dice tab, then the Goblin Box: its page and How it rolls. Click Add to library. Checkout shows for a moment with a total of 0.00, then Thanks for your purchase! appears: there's nothing to pay, and the design is yours, in every game, for good. Go to library closes the marketplace.
Once a design is yours, its page says In your library instead of Add to library, and it tells you where to use it: Game Settings, under Dice design.
Locked designs
Most designs unlock with an achievement sticker, one of the collectable stickers RollQuest gives you for things you do at the table (see Your sticker album).
- A locked design's card in the Dice tab has a lock on it and says Earn and the sticker's name instead of a price.
- Its page says Earn the … sticker to unlock these dice, and its button, Earn … to unlock, is greyed out.
- When a sticker you earn unlocks dice, its pop-up says Unlocks the … dice in the Marketplace. Click See the dice to go straight to them. The design's page then says Unlocked by your … sticker, and Add to library works as usual.
- You earn these stickers on every plan, Free included, even though collecting them in a sticker book is on Starter and Pro.

After that, its price reads Event ended, and its page says This limited-time unlock ended on … and Only players who earned the … sticker can claim these dice., with the button greyed out as No longer available. If you earned the sticker in time, you can still add the design whenever you like.
Choose a design for your dice
A design is chosen per game: each game you're in remembers its own. Choose Standard dice to go back to your own colours.
Game Master (GM):
- Open the menu (three lines, top left) and click Game Settings.
- Click the Board tab. Dice design is at the top of Colors.
- Pick a design. Only designs in your library are listed, A to Z, under Standard dice. The preview beside it, a d4, a d6 and a d20 turning slowly, shows them in that design.
- Click Save Settings. Dice design saved appears.
Players: click the cog on the tool rail. In Audio Settings, pick a design under Your Dice Design, then click Save Settings. It appears once you have a character on the board, and it's saved on your character, so it follows that character in this game.
Roll
Roll the way you always do: from the dice menu, from a character sheet, or by typing a roll in chat. Your dice land in your design on every screen at the table, including the screens of players who don't own it.
- In a design with a 3D model die, only that die is a model: the Goblin Box rolls a goblin for each d6, and olive dice for the rest. The model's shape decides its result, and everyone's screen shows it landing the same way. See Classic and physics dice.
- If the model hasn't finished loading when you roll, on a slow connection for example, that die rolls as an ordinary die for that roll.
- Secret rolls keep the design, with ? on the faces as usual (see Secret rolls).
- Dice effects, such as fire, frost or a natural 20 celebration, work with any design (see Dice effects).
Your dice colours while a design is chosen
A design brings its own colours, so while one is chosen:
- The Fill and Text dice colours are greyed out, with the note This design brings its own colours. Choose Standard dice to use your colours. For a player, the note says your Fill still sets your token's colour.
- Edit Character shows the character's dice in the design their player chose, with the note This character rolls … dice, which bring their own colours. Token colour still sets the token on the board. Its Dice text color is greyed out. The design is chosen in the settings above, not here.
Choose Standard dice and your own colours come back exactly as they were.
Dice design settings, control by control
| Control | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Dice design | GM: Game Settings > Board > Colors | The design your own rolls use in this game. Standard dice uses your dice colours. |
| Your Dice Design | Player: the cog > Audio Settings | The design your character's rolls use in this game. |
| Find more dice designs | Beside either list | Opens the Marketplace on the Dice tab. A design you add there appears in the list straight away. |
| The preview | Under the colours | A d4, a d6 and a d20 turning slowly in the chosen design, or in your colours with Standard dice. |
| Save Settings | The bottom of the window | Saves your choice. Closing the window without it changes nothing. |
Messages you might see
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Dice design saved | Your choice is saved: your next roll uses it. |
| Could not save the dice design: … | It didn't save, for the reason given. Try again in a moment. |
| Dice designs are not available for your account yet | Dice designs aren't switched on for your account. |
| That dice design is not in your library | Add the design to your library in the Marketplace first. |
| Earn the … sticker to unlock … | The design is locked: earn the sticker it names first. |
Adding a design to your library, like anything else in the Marketplace, needs a verified email address. See Create your account.
Good to know
- Every design is free. A paid plan doesn't unlock designs, and a design never needs a checkout.
- A design you own stays yours if it's later taken out of the Marketplace: you can still choose it.
- The GM's design is for the GM's own rolls, and each player chooses their own. The GM can't set a player's design.
- A content pack made from your game doesn't carry your dice design, or your players'.
- Switching scenes doesn't change anyone's design: it belongs to the game, not the scene.
