Add a monster in seconds from the creature library, with its hit points, armour class and resistances already filled in, or make your own from scratch.

Add an enemy from the library

  1. Open the menu (three lines, top left) and click Enemies, then + Add. The Add New Enemy window opens.

  2. Choose From the library.

  3. Type in Find a creature… to search by name, for example goblin or black dragon. Narrow it with the CR range if the list is long.

  4. Click a creature. Its name fills in Enemy Name; change it if you like.

  5. Click Create.

From the library, search for goblin, pick it, then Create.

The token appears in the middle of your view with the creature's stat block attached. Drag it into place.

The library holds the creatures that come with your game's system (such as the 5e bestiary) and any you have made yourself, yours first. If you see This game has no Game System, the game was created with None (generic HP): make the enemy From scratch instead.

Add an enemy from scratch

In Add New Enemy, keep From scratch, type an Enemy Name and click Create. You get a blank token with no stat block.

Read its stat block

Right-click the token and choose Stat block. You see:

  • This creature now: its current hit points and conditions.
  • As written: the block itself: abilities, saves, damage resistances, what it can't be, and its actions.
Right-click the token, then Stat block.

Several creatures can share one block: each keeps its own hit points.

A horde from one

Right-click an enemy and choose Clone. The copy keeps the stat block, gets its own hit points, and starts without conditions.

Hide an enemy from players

Right-click it and choose Hide Token. Players can't see it at all; you see it faded. Show Token reveals it, at the moment you choose.

New enemies are visible to players as soon as they are created, so hide them first if the ambush matters.

Show hit points on the token

Hit points, armour class and names are hidden on tokens until you turn them on. Right-click, choose Edit Enemy, and on the Status tab use On the board to show each one to you, to the players, or both.
