Upload a map

  1. Open the menu (three lines, top left) and click Background. The Background Library opens.

The Background Library, with Upload Backgrounds at the top and your maps below.
  2. Click Upload Backgrounds and choose one or more files. You can also drag files onto the button.

  3. Keep playing while they upload: a message tells you when each one is done.

The first map you upload to an empty game goes onto the board by itself.

Put a map on the board

Click any map in Your Backgrounds. It becomes the background of the scene you are on, and the view zooms to fit it. There is no confirmation: click another map to change it again.

Your walls, doors, tokens and lights stay where they are on the picture. They are stored as positions on the map, so on a new map of a different shape they stretch to match.

Tip: if the new map's squares are a different size, line up the grid again.

What you can upload

  • Images: JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF.
  • Animated maps: WebM, MP4 or MOV video. They play on a silent loop and show a VIDEO badge in the library. WebM plays in every supported browser.

How big a file can be depends on your plan:

Plan Largest file Total storage
Free 5 MB 250 MB
Starter 20 MB 1 GB
Pro 100 MB 5 GB

If a file is too big you see This file is 8 MB. The limit is 5 MB. or a message about your remaining storage.

Crop or resize a map

Hover over one of your own images and click Resize or crop this image. Make your changes, then click Save as new image: the original stays as it was.

Delete a map

Hover over it and click Delete background, then Delete.

If a scene still uses it, you see Background In Use with the scenes listed. Give those scenes another map first, then delete it.
