Line up the grid
The grid is what makes a square five feet. Line it up with the squares printed on your map, so tokens snap into place and distances come out right.
Open the grid settings
Hover over the Mode menu at the top of the board and choose Grid. Its settings show underneath:
- Cell Size: the size of one square in pixels, from 10 to 500. The default is 100.
- Grid Type: Square, Hex (Flat) or Hex (Pointy).
- Align to Grid: fits the grid to your map in three steps (below).
- Snap to Grid: tokens jump from square to square when you drag them.
- Block Wall Passage: walls and doors stop tokens being dragged through them.
- Show Grid: turns the grid lines on or off.
- Grid Opacity: how strong the lines are, from 0 to 100%.
Fit the grid to your map
In the Grid settings, click Align to Grid. It only appears when the scene has a map.
Anchor: click a clear corner where four printed squares meet. The nearest grid corner jumps onto it. Choose Dark or Light under Overlay if the lines are hard to see.
Align to Grid opens on its first step, Anchor. Scale: drag the cyan handle until one grid square covers one printed square. Cell width and Cell height show the size.
Fine Tune: nudge the grid with the arrow buttons (Shift-click moves 10 pixels), or type X and Y.
Click Check alignment far away, then click a corner on the far side of the map. It tells you if the grid drifts, and Fit to this point corrects it.
Click Done.
You can also drag empty space on the board while in Grid mode to slide the grid into place.
Hex grids
Choose Hex (Flat) or Hex (Pointy) in Grid Type for hex crawls and overland travel. Fog of war and snapping follow the hexes.
Plan: hex grids need Starter or Pro.
Good to know
- One square is 5 feet unless your game system says otherwise.
- The lines are always red; Grid Opacity makes them fainter or stronger.
- Each scene can have its own grid defaults. Open Scenes, click the scene's settings, and use Scene Options.
- If you change the grid on a scene where you have cleared fog cell by cell, RollQuest asks first, because those cleared cells would be lost.
