Bring players into your game with an invite link or an email invitation, then give each one a character to play. You can invite people before the first session or in the middle of one.

For: Game Masters · Plan: Free · 3 minutes

Note: you need to confirm your email address before you can invite anyone. See Create your account.

Open the invite window

Either:

  • in the game, open the menu (three lines, top left) and click Invite Player, or
  • on your dashboard, click the Invite players icon on the game's card.

The Invite Player window opens.

The Invite Player window: an email invitation at the top, a shareable link below.
  1. Click Generate Invite Link.
  2. Click Copy Invite Link and send the link to your player by message, email or chat.

The link works for 30 days. The player opens it, signs in (or signs up), and the game appears on their dashboard.

Tip: make one link per player. Each link is used up when someone accepts it.

Clicking Generate New Invite Link makes a fresh link and stops the old one working. That is also how you cancel a link you sent by mistake.

Send an email invitation

  1. In Player Email, type the address your player uses for RollQuest.
  2. Tick Ask them to build a character if you want them to make their own. When they accept from the email, their dashboard asks them to build one, and they can finish it any time before the first session.
  3. Click Send Email Invitation.

The game appears on their dashboard straight away with a Join Game button, and they get an email with an Accept invitation button.

The player needs a RollQuest account already. If they don't have one, send them an invite link instead: it lets them sign up and join in one go.

Give each player a character

A player moves the token that is assigned to them.

  1. Right-click the character's token and choose Edit Character (or use Edit character in the Characters panel).
  2. Open the Access tab.
  3. Under Assigned player, choose the player.
  4. Click Save Changes.

If you ticked Ask them to build a character, the character they build takes the first unassigned player token by itself.

See who's at the table

  • On the dashboard, each game card shows its members' avatars. A green dot means online.
  • In the game, the Characters panel shows how many players are online and a dot beside each character.
  • When someone arrives you see a message such as Robin joined the game.

How many players

A game holds up to 8 players, plus you as the GM.

Remove a player

  1. Open Game Settings from the tool rail and go to the Players tab.
  2. Under Manage users, click Remove beside the player, then confirm.

They leave the game straight away and their tokens are unassigned.

Stop anyone joining for now

In the menu, under GM Controls, click Lock Game. Everyone else is disconnected and no one can join until you click Unlock Game.

If something's wrong

"No user found with that email address." That person has no RollQuest account yet. Send an invite link.

"This user has already been invited to the game." They have: ask them to check their dashboard.

Your player sees "This invite link has expired." The link was used or replaced. Generate a new one.
