Level up

Level up from the sheet's Level Up menu. RollQuest shows what the new level gives, asks for any choices, and adds the hit points.

Find Level Up

Level Up is in the sheet's toolbar:

  • In the Canvas view, the character's player sees it straight away. As the Game Master (GM), click Edit first.
  • In the Form View, click Edit, then Level Up.

It shows for the GM and for the player the character belongs to.

Level up

  1. Click Level Up and pick the class to level, for example Fighter · Lv 3 → 4.
  2. What you gain lists the level's new features and proficiencies.
  3. If the level brings a choice (a subclass, an ability score improvement or new spells), the Choices step asks for it. Click Make these choices →.
  4. Hit Points: choose Fixed (the average), Roll or Manual for the new level. The summary shows how many hit points you gain.
  5. Click Finish level-up.

Nothing is saved until you click Finish level-up. Cancel leaves without changing anything.

Your current hit points go up by what you gained. Levelling up doesn't heal you to full.

If a class row is greyed out, its note says why, for example Finish character setup first or Level 20 is the maximum.

Add a second class (GM)

When the game system allows multiclassing, Level Up also offers Add a class…. In 5e and 5.5e a character needs 13 in the new class's key ability, and can have only one spellcasting class.

You can add a class without the prerequisites with Allow anyway. The one-spellcasting-class rule can't be overridden.

Take a level off (GM)

Level down removes a class's latest level, including the hit points it gave. If the character's current hit points are above the new maximum, they drop to it. Click Remove level to confirm.

The window lists anything that won't be removed automatically, under Won't be cleaned up. Take those off the sheet by hand if you need to.

The Progression tab

Progression on the sheet is a timeline of the character's class levels: what they've Earned and Chosen, the Current level, and what's still to Choose or Locked. When a big choice is coming up it says so, with Open setup wizard.

You can't level up from here: use Level Up.

Note: if the GM has turned on Freeze characters, players can't level up until it's turned off. See Game settings.
