What the DnD character sheet works out for you

Every derived number on a D&D 5e character sheet is worked out from the choices you make. Pick a class and the sheet knows its hit die, saving throws, armor and weapon training, skill choices and starting equipment. Pick a species and its traits, size and speed are applied. Pick a background and its skills, tools and equipment arrive on the sheet. Set an ability score and its modifier, the saving throws it feeds and all eighteen skills update at once. Put on chain mail and pick up a shield and your Armor Class is 18.

Start at level 1, or build straight up to the level your table plays at. Choose level 7 and the builder fills in the proficiency bonus, hit points, class features and spell slots you would have earned on the way, so a character does not need seven rounds of levelling to exist. Spell lists are filtered to what the class can know, and slots and preparation are tracked for you.

The sheet ships with the 2014 rules from SRD 5.1 and the 2024 rules from SRD 5.2.1 as separate packs, so you get the right classes, species, backgrounds, feats, spells and equipment for whichever edition your table plays. The builder opens on 5.5e, the current rules, and 5e (2014) is one tap away on the start screen.

The Dungeons and Dragons reference on this site is built from the same packs. The class tables, species traits and backgrounds you can read there are the ones the sheet uses, so what you see on the page is what lands on your character sheet.

A sheet to play from, not a PDF to fill in

Most DnD character sheets online are a PDF or a form: you fill in the numbers, then look them up again every time you roll. This one is live. Attacks, checks and saves are buttons: tap one and the sheet rolls the right die with the right modifier, with advantage or disadvantage if you ask for it. Damage rolls carry the weapon dice and your modifier, and a spell scales with the slot you spend.

You can play the sheet on its own, on a phone or a desktop, with no game behind it: roll for a one-shot at someone else’s table, or just see how the character feels. When your group is ready, bring the character into any RollQuest game in one click. Changes made at the table sync live, and the sheet stays on your account, so it comes with you to the next game. There is no PDF to download or print, because there is nothing to keep in step by hand.

Free means free

The builder and the character sheet are on the Free plan, and nothing about them expires. A free account holds 3 character sheets, 1 game and 100 MB of storage. Nothing is installed: RollQuest runs in the browser, and a character starts from a link.
